OHSUNG ELECTRONICS, an electronic controller and wireless device manufacturing company, has participated in the 'Electronic System Specialized Technology Development Project-Intelligent and Converged Electronic Information Device Technology Development Field' implemented by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, and was selected to implement the ‘Home IoT hub equipped with an edge computing function development’ project based on various electronic product manufacturing experience and technology.

 

The development project will draw a total of KRW 3 billion, including KRW 2.3 billion government expenditure and KRW 0.7 billion private investment for three years from this year.

 

Accordingly, a consortium of 4 organizations and companies is formed, including the leading company OHSUNG ELECTRONICS, Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI), Korea Association of Smart Home  (KASH), and Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH).

 

The OHSUNG ELECTRONICS oversees the 'Home IoT Edge Hub' development project, the KETI develops edge computing functions, and the KASH discovers service scenarios and business models. LH, as the leading smart city construction specialized government corporation, would review the commercialization models and support their demonstration using its demonstration site on the enormous scale in Korea

 

As a result of the above process, the residents in 100 apartment units will have and use the Home IoT edge system by 2021.

 

In particular, the Ohsung Electronics Consortium is in the process of technology development through ▲cooperation with 120 small and medium-sized companies in the device and home appliance associations ▲implementation and verification of pilot services for demonstration sites ▲promotion of commercialization of each home IoT edge technology field ▲expansion of the base through sharing the reference HW/SW/platform.

 

 

Gyeong-Hwan Chu, the chief officer of OHSUNG ELECTRONICS, stated, "the goal of this project is to ensure connectivity and interoperability between different kinds of IoT electronics and increase the customer base through the system development and actual operation in daily usage demonstration." And said, "In addition to technology development, we are putting great effort into helping small and medium-sized devices and home appliance developers in Korea and expanding the market base.”
